Ulley Village Survey

Summary

  • 96% or residents are satisfied or very satisfied with Ulley being close to the countryside and reservoir.
  • Most valued ameneties are the Village Hall (89%), an active church (77%) and the pub (75%) when it's open!
  • 79% of the residents valued the community spirit of the village residents and this was one of the top three things that people say they like about living in Ulley.
  • 84% of people are happy with the closeness of road links, but many are dissatisfied with the local bus services.
  • 99% of residents are dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the speed of traffic coming through the village and three quarters fully support traffice calming measures being implemented. Traffic was one of the top three issues of concern.
  • High levels of satisfaction were expressed with the upkeep of the village, flower beds and Christmas decorations, but there was dissatisfaction with litter and dog fouling. The role of the volunteer litter pickers and the workabout group were commended.
  • 96% of residents are very unhappy with the level of flytipping around the area and raised this as a major issue in their top three concerns.
  • Level of crime is a concern ranging from between 6% and 10% reporting burglary up to 23% reporting car theft or damage. In addition, half of the respondents said they feel unsafe on the narrow footpaths due to traffic (with high proportions saying they had had near missues either to theur person or car); and over a quarter of respondents had received verbal or physical abuse and felt unsafe in some areas of the village, at the reservoir when 'youths' are aroung, or at night.
  • High levels of support were expressed for the conservation area behind the church and proposals to explore becoming an eco village and church, but some requested more detail on this.
  • 93% of residents have made use of the villae hall or would consider doing so.
  • 73% of people have attended village events and others would like to. Some of the popular current events are children's Halloween, well dressing, carol services / nativity, race night and social evenings. Residents would like to see fitness classes such as yoga in the future, barn dances and bonfire night being held again and also movie and quiz nights.
  • Residents are also open to events such as a summer fair, barn dance, sponsored walks and Easter egg hunts being held to raise funds.
  • 64% of people feel it is important to them to know about what's happening in the village and most people value and use the newsletter, which is seen as the central communication method for the village and many also access the facebook group.
